Synergy on the Central Coast

Our good friends Adrian Doczy and Leanne Landels are hosting workshops with the hugely overqualified Kat Branson and Mr. Smooth Dancer Nathan Toussaint on the 19th January.  Mark is planning on being there to build on his skill set.  Going to workshops and learning from the best is how to really improve your dancing.

Dance Parties in 2019

Emily has run the social club pretty much on her own for the last couple of years.  Is there a Lead and a Follow dancer willing to assist with organising dance parties and other social occasions in 2019?  Please send Em a Facebook message.

2019 Term 1 - Specials

Between all the social media sites, poor old Blogger has been neglected.  Anyway - here is my news at the start of 2019.

Term 1

starts 22nd January and we will do 12 lessons instead of the usual 10.  Term fees are now $159 per term for 2019.  Casual rate is $22 per visit for experienced WCS dancers.  If you are going on holidays in a term, talk to Mark and he will arrange an appropriate discount.

Workshops with US Pros

At the end of term 1 we have two US Pros in Samantha Buckwalter and Matt Richey coming to Canberra.  It is a low cost weekend away from the 26th April to 28th April.  New dancers will be able to come along to the workshops and go from:

2016 February mid term update

Canberra Multi-cultural Dance Party

Well the Multi-cultural dance party turned out to be a great event and the Novacastrians asked that we consider turning this into an annual event.  That sounds like a great idea to me so later in the year we will book Salsabor again and start promoting with the other West Coast Swing dance schools.  2017 may require a bigger venue!

Our next big date – 19th March 2016

The 2016 Connect and Participate (CAP) Expo at the Kingston Markets starts at 11am at the Old Bus Depot Markets, 21 Wentworth Avenue, Kingston.  Last year over 8,000 people came through the stalls and connected with community organisations.  We will be promoting Audacity Dance there and hopefully we get to perform a dance or three.  It would be great if some volunteers can be available to look after the stall, hand out fliers, recruit fun people to join us and maybe demo West Coast Swing.  Drop me a line (mark@audacitydance.com.au) if you can help.  We will open a stall between 11am and 3pm so let me know when you might be available.

Dance Party 19th March

That evening there will be a dance party at the **pending confirmation** Belconnen Arts Centre starting at 7:30pm.  The dance party is free for term pass holders and $15 for everyone else.  All monies raised go to the Social Club.  (N.B. We were planning a dance party for 12/3 but we forgot about Canberra Day holiday and people being away.)

Your support for the Audacity Charity

Your attendance at Audacity allows us to make a $35 a month contribution to the UNHCR humanitarian project in Syria.  Thank you.

September spring madness!

Kaz is teaching this Tuesday

Time to get over the workday blues and look forward to Tuesday with some fun dancing with Karolina and Mark showing you some cool moves at the BAC.   Karolina is looking to enjoy her first time back teaching in a while so let’s everyone get along for a great night of dancing.  There will be a focus on lady styling tips and maybe a couple for the guys as well.

Who do we congratulate?

Also – its celebration time!  We had a bunch of our dancers at Best of the Best on the Gold Coast last weekend with four finalists!  They win with all the dancing and workshops and come away smiling after a great weekend away.  But not only that, Randall and Shanyn got 2nd placing in Strictly Swing and Emily and Deb Ashcroft are winners having also made finals.  A huge congratulations to all who went.

Wannabe a Wallaby?  Wear rugby paraphernalia and win

And it’s a mini farewell.  Mark is off to the UK to follow the Wallabies in the Rugby World Cup.  Anyone wearing Aussie colours or a footy jumper or scarf goes into a draw to win $50 towards a term 4 pass.  (I’d guess that’s about a 1 in 10 chance of winning $50!)

Win a term 4 pass discount

Term 4 passes go on sale this week.  $149 gets you term 4 plus the two additional Fun!damentals classes to be held during the term break.  That’s exceptional value!  And to make it more attractive – pay your term fee up front this week (preferably) or next and anyone purchasing their term 4 pass goes into a draw to win a private lesson (to the value of $90) or a $90 discount off their term pass.  (Better than a 1 in 20 chance!!!)

Feel like a winery tour with Pizzazz?

Karolina is looking at a winery tour more in the Peter Slipper tradition than the Mark Farrell guzzler.  The idea – 3 wineries (of course) but throw in a first class restaurant experience at Flint in the Vines.  Final details to be worked out but if interested, put your name down in class or email mark@audacitydance.com.au this week.  Price range $140 - $160.  Early November timeframe.

That should take care of any residual Mondayitis!  So see you all tomorrow night where everyone wins!

Go the wallabies J

Term 3 2015 Dance news

Hi everyone

Here is your pre term 3 newsletter detailing the following exciting snippets of news:

New Term starts Tuesday 21 July

There will be no change to the structure of the evening at this point as a number of new starters could not make the later time.  Therefore classes start as close to 7:30pm as possible (allowing the room to clear beforehand.)  All the Audacity teachers are hugely appreciative of the Intermediate dancers who help out in the first five or so weeks of our Intro to WCS course.  It assists our new starters tremendously and the numbers add a great vibe to the class.

Term Fees

The price structure remains $149 for the ten week term unless you have a discount offer through Mark or Karolina – or you are claiming a reward.  Trevor, Brendan, Leanne and Dean all earned rewards for either introducing new students to WCS or for being extremely social and participative at our dance parties.

Pay by direct deposit, PayPal or Credit Card

Pre-payment of your term fee would be appreciated as it saves time before class.  (BSB and account details are available by contacting Mark.)  To pay by credit card please call me and I will process it over the phone and send you a receipt by email.

Going on holidays?

If you are going on holidays or for some reason you will be away with work for more than four weeks during the term then please see me for our casual rate program that only applies in those circumstances.

Where's Wally social

Last Saturday’s dance party was a hoot.  I have seen some pictures on our Facebook group.  http://on.fb.me/1Gn5SVB

Remember to join the group as this is where we announce socials and there are posts from other dance school upcoming events.  Anyway – Emily, Dean and Leanne shared the best dressed award in the eye of the judge (Mark).  Their prize is a heavily discounted term pass.

The feedback about the venue was positive.  It is a good size for our group’s current size and the floor was well rated by dance aficionado Trevor.

Charity donation

We raised $250 at the social that goes towards assisting earthquake victims in Nepal.  ($190 on the night plus Trevor isn’t going to claim his reward so Audacity will throw an additional $60 to the appeal.)

Bridal dance lessons

Karolina knocks out some outstanding choreography for wedding couples.  Paul and Erika have a neat little routine they are polishing now so we hope to show that to you in class in a few weeks time.

So make sure you recommend our services to your friends.  Our rates are highly competitive and the value for money from the time and effort we put in exceeds all other dance studios – guaranteed!

Farewell and Bon Chance!

Our teacher Courtney is off to greener pastures so we will sadly miss her as she heads off on her new adventure.  Paul and Erika’s wedding is in the USA in August.  The social club will be working with both Courtney and Paul and Erika to see if we can have our next social in celebration of their respective new and happy upcoming life events.

Help us build our community!

Please all remember that this great community of West Coast Swing only grows through your positive encouragement of friends, colleagues and admirers to come learn to dance.  And you get two rewards.  The great feeling of knowing you have made a difference by enhancing people's lives AND a 10% discount on your next term pass.

Who's hungry for a routine?

It’s been 12 months since our last team routine.  If I can get six keen dance couples/partners wanting to learn a routine then we will get cracking with a view to teaching it in term 4.

My current two favourite songs are Paloma Faith’s ‘Can’t Rely on You’ and ‘Take Me’.  Song choice needs to be one you can stand listening and practicing to for long periods.  It needs hits and energy and conveys some passion.  It should also be between 90 and say 120 beats per minute and these tick my box.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all next week of course.  Stay good!

Cheers
Mark and Karolina
